The Institute for Effective Governance (IEG) has deployed national and international
observation mission to observe Liberia’s October 10, 2023 Legislative and Presidential Elections.
The 27-person delegation, with members from five countries, is being led by Mr. Ernest K. Gaie,
former Country Manager for ActionAid in Liberia and Sierra Leon. He is joined by other
development practitioners, academic professors and three international journalists, IEG Board
Member Mr. Luke Bawo, recent past Executive Director Mahamed Boakai and scores of other
Liberian professionals from various backgrounds. A range of media personalities are also part of
the mission to ensure unbiased comprehensive coverage of the elections. Among the international
media institutions forming part of the IEG Observation Mission is the Daily Scope Newspaper
from Sierra Leone represented by Managing Editor Elizabeth Agatha Kaine, Editor Alfred Koroma
and Staff Reporter Kofa Faith.
The mission will be in Liberia from September 14, through October 12, 2023, and is expected to
deploy observer teams to eight counties including the capital, Monrovia. Through this mission,
IEG seeks to reflect the international community’s interest in and support for democratic electoral processes in Liberia. The mission is mandated to conduct its activities in accordance with Liberian law and the Declaration of Principles for International Election Observation and collaborate closely with other observer missions that endorse the Declaration, while coordinating with impartial and independent citizen observer organizations.
IEG is Liberia’s foremost research based independent think tank run by professionals from various
background. IEG-Liberia’s focus is to stimulate effective and openly responsive governance through mass participation while promoting sustainable development and enhancing quality of life through the creation of better alternatives for accountability, transparency and good governance.
